Ice Fishing

John went ice fishing tonight and caught his limit of 25 bluegills. Our guests who stayed in Red Oaks over the holidays had a successful 5 days ice fishing. The largest being a 23 inch walleye!

the fish were biting strong at 5pm once the moon was up.

Scott, one of our carpenters, went fishing with John.

Frozen Snapping Turtle

Over the holidays when family was here we found a snapping turtle in the middle of one of the ponds near the barn. John wanted to get his hands on it because he thinks it would make a great addition to the Fireside Room or the front desk. The problem: Is the ice thick enough to walk on?

First thing was to choose the bravest (and lightest) person to go out on the ice. Kendria wins! On goes the life vest and then John ties on the rope.

Next test to see if the ice is safe.

John on the other end of the rope in case Kendria falls in. Which one of these onlookers do you think would go in after Kendria if she fell through the ice!?!

Digging it out.

Bringing the turtle back to shore.

Kelly checking the turtle carcass out. The otter had a good meal of turtle.

Look for the turtle shell somewhere ion the lodge when you visit this summer.

First snow of the season

The snow started falling on Wednesday and ended on Thursday. From a person who used to dislike the snow the Northwoods have made me fall in love with it. It is always picture perfect outside with the fresh snow. We had a total of 6-7 inches of snow. Some areas of the Northwoods had as much as 14 inches. Of course with heavy snow comes power outages. thus I had to wait until today to post pictures. 🙂 Enjoy the pictures.

More photos from our guests

After two weeks of no sun and misty weather (not even enough rain to help raise the water levels in the lake) we have had beautiful summer like weather this week. 77 degrees here today. Enjoy the latest photos given to us by our guests.

Fall colors

The color didn't stay on the trees long this year due to the high winds.

Otter in the creek

We have had a family of otters playing for the last two weeks. Momma and 3 babies. They have been playing in all the ponds, in the culvert under County K and in the creek. Today has been my first chance of getting a picture. Enjoy.

Momma waiting for her little one to join her.

Here comes the little one. I was hoping to get a picture with Momma with her little one, but my daughter and niece came to watch and screamed with excitement and momma ran away.
